First of the new year and why not of this grey-headed flying fox (Pteropus poliocephalus). These majestic bats, with their dusky grey fur and striking orange collars, are vital pollinators and seed dispersers in eastern Australia. By day, they roost in large colonies, and at dusk, they take to the skies in search of nectar, pollen, and fruits. This particular photo was taken at Caversham Wildlife Park, where you can see these incredible creatures up close and appreciate their help in conserving this species.
