Bird

The Australian white ibis is a large wader bird easily identified by its long, curved beak and striking white plumage. Commonly found in wetlands, parks, and even urban areas, it feeds on a wide variety of food, including insects, small fish, and scraps from human activity. Known for its adaptability, the ibis has become a familiar sight in Australian cities, where it often scavenges in open spaces.

SCIENTIFIC NAME:

Threskiornis molucca

FAMILY:

Threskiornithidae

NATIONAL CONSERVATION STATUS:

Least Concern

Fun Fact:

The Australian white ibis earned the nickname "bin chicken" because it's often seen scavenging in urban areas, rummaging through trash bins for food. Its fearless behaviour and adaptability to city life have made it a familiar (and sometimes humorous) sight in Australian suburbs!
